REVIEW: Revlon Photo Ready Foundation

The last time I wore foundation was on my graduation day. I wore absolutely no makeup in highschool and the only thing I knew how to do were my eyebrows (unfortunately, I didn't even do that right). For the big day, I went to MAC and a MUA did my face. She used some MAC foundation on my face because I had a lot of acne scars at the time. I remember looking into the mirror that night and seeing how orange and cakey my face looked! It also felt heavy and greasy so I never went back to foundation after that.

As of late, I've been seeing nothing but good reviews on the new Revlon PhotoReady foundation. I've swatched their ColorStay foundation at the store before and didn't like it because it had a strong scent and felt really heavy/thick on my hand. However, when I swatched the PhotoReady foundation, it felt so light and didn't smell like anything. I liked it!..Then I looked at the price... $17.99 CAD.. GAHH! For a drugstore foundation?! Really?

I was looking into BB creams for awhile but I gave up because the shades were too light. As luck would have it, I was at London Drugs and the foundation was on sale for $9.99! Steal! I ended up buying Medium Beige 006 and Golden Beige 008 because I didn't know which one would be a good match for my face. As it turned out, Golden Beige is lighter than Medium Beige. They both have strong yellow undertones so both shades suit me well, though I do prefer Golden Beige because it makes my tanned olive skin look glowy! Medium Beige looks a bit more on the yellowy-orange side and it makes my skin look dull.

Here are the swatches with and without flash. I lightly blended them below:

For reference, I think I'm in between NC 37-42.
The foundation is very light and easy to blend. It has micro shimmers which is not very noticeable on my face in real life . It makes the skin look glowy, dewy, and youthful. It doesn't leave my face looking cakey.

And now the down side...
This foundation made me break out! Of course, everybody's skin is different.. mine obviously did not like this product. Also, I have trouble removing this foundation. I have to wash my face three times to get rid of every trace! If you have large pores and fine lines, the shimmers might even emphasize them. Honestly, I think this foundation is suited for people who already have decent skin because I don't see it covering dark spots, beauty marks, or acne scars... it simply is too sheer unless you build it up. Above all else, this foundation contains SPF 20 so contrary to the "Photoready" label, you can't take pictures with this on because you WILL get that inevitable white cast in photos. Tried and true.

I don't think I'll be repurchasing this ever again.
Until next time. :)

it's $37 in australia (with exchange rate AUD$1 = USD$0.93), so it's not so expensive in canada!

I don't wear foundation either. I don't like it at all! You're so right on spending money on skin care vs. foundation. I've totally been following that I can see my skin getting much better.

Great review! I've been going back and forth ever since these came out trying to figure out if I'd like the Photoready or Colorstay. I'm really pale, so I'd have to find the right one and I believe they don't have one light enough for me, but I haven't had the chance to look yet.

I used this foundation once. It covers my scars well but it makes my face brake out :( so I stop using it. Anyway I inbox you at Youtube..;)

this foundation is best applied if you use a stippling brush and stipple (don't swirl it) and I swear it will look like as if you don't have anything . plus , if you use a stippling brush , you use less product for the same effet .

I'm a recent foundation convert too! However, just to let you know the coverage is buildable. I have bad acne scarring and have no problem with the coverage.

Great review great blog! New follower!
I got a bottle of this as well in the 008 Golden beige and I had the same problem as you though as far as the colour choosing...was going to get 006 but so happy I didn't. i found it did not cover up my acne scars as well. and as and oily skin I found that I was more oily with this over the day. it did look good for the most part of the day though.
Check out my blog and I hope you follow to hun! take care
