REVIEW: Revlon Photo Ready Foundation

The last time I wore foundation was on my graduation day. I wore absolutely no makeup in highschool and the only thing I knew how to do were my eyebrows (unfortunately, I didn't even do that right). For the big day, I went to MAC and a MUA did my face. She used some MAC foundation on my face because I had a lot of acne scars at the time. I remember looking into the mirror that night and seeing how orange and cakey my face looked! It also felt heavy and greasy so I never went back to foundation after that.

As of late, I've been seeing nothing but good reviews on the new Revlon PhotoReady foundation. I've swatched their ColorStay foundation at the store before and didn't like it because it had a strong scent and felt really heavy/thick on my hand. However, when I swatched the PhotoReady foundation, it felt so light and didn't smell like anything. I liked it!..Then I looked at the price... $17.99 CAD.. GAHH! For a drugstore foundation?! Really?

I was looking into BB creams for awhile but I gave up because the shades were too light. As luck would have it, I was at London Drugs and the foundation was on sale for $9.99! Steal! I ended up buying Medium Beige 006 and Golden Beige 008 because I didn't know which one would be a good match for my face. As it turned out, Golden Beige is lighter than Medium Beige. They both have strong yellow undertones so both shades suit me well, though I do prefer Golden Beige because it makes my tanned olive skin look glowy! Medium Beige looks a bit more on the yellowy-orange side and it makes my skin look dull.

Here are the swatches with and without flash. I lightly blended them below:

For reference, I think I'm in between NC 37-42.
The foundation is very light and easy to blend. It has micro shimmers which is not very noticeable on my face in real life . It makes the skin look glowy, dewy, and youthful. It doesn't leave my face looking cakey.

And now the down side...
This foundation made me break out! Of course, everybody's skin is different.. mine obviously did not like this product. Also, I have trouble removing this foundation. I have to wash my face three times to get rid of every trace! If you have large pores and fine lines, the shimmers might even emphasize them. Honestly, I think this foundation is suited for people who already have decent skin because I don't see it covering dark spots, beauty marks, or acne scars... it simply is too sheer unless you build it up. Above all else, this foundation contains SPF 20 so contrary to the "Photoready" label, you can't take pictures with this on because you WILL get that inevitable white cast in photos. Tried and true.

I don't think I'll be repurchasing this ever again.
Until next time. :)

REVIEW & SWATCHES: Revlon Lippies

Revlon Matte Lipsticks

(L-R) Nude Attitude, Pink Pout, Mauve it Over, Pink About It.

Color description according to Nee.
Nude Attitude: Peachy Nude with orange undertone
Pink Pout: Cool pale blue-pink
Mauve it Over: I always thought mauve was more of a greyish purple/pink color but the color of this lipstick is more of a muted pinky-brown. None of the less, this is my fav out of the bunch!
Pink About It: Bright watermelon red. Think 60's!

Overall Rating: 3/5 (in general)
Price:
$5-$8 CAD
Packaging: Sleek and practical!
Would you buy this again? I would only buy Mauve it Over again. The rest I can pass.

I'm sure you've heard all about the Revlon Matte Lipsticks already. Everyone has either tried Nude Attitude or Pink Pout-- a nude shade and a baby pink shade, how can one go wrong?

Well, here's my two cents on these lipsticks. The paler the lipstick, the more drying it is. Nude Attitude is unbelieving drying.. if you don't exfoliate or apply lip balm before putting these babies on, be prepared for nasty flaky lips! If you are one of the smart girls who did do this, you won't have any problems with these lipsticks. Top it off with some gloss and you're good to go! Btw, I'm one of the smart girls ;) Pics below to prove it!

Before:
After:
Top Row: Nude Attitude, Pink Pout
Bottom Row: Mauve it Over, Pink About It

One thing I love about these lipsticks is the pigmentation. I have super pigmented lips (brownish-pink) and these lipsticks are pigmented enough to provide an opaque application. Mauve it Over is my favorite because it gives me a "my lips but better" color and it's a great everyday lipstick paired with black eyeliner. It's moisturizing compared to Nude Attitude and Pink Pout. Pink About It is the creamiest which is a shame since I would never wear it out in public. It clashes with my skin tone!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss

(L-R) Nude Lustre, Life's a Peach, Pink Whisper, Pink Pursuit, Cherries in the Glow

Overall Rating: 5/5 (in general)
Price:
$4-$8 CAD
Packaging: 5/5
Would you buy this again? Yes!

I've mentioned these before on my blog but never got around to swatching them. They are hands down the best drugstore lipsticks in my opinion. I love the color selection, the pigmentation, and the pretty sturdy packaging-- it has a twist click cap so you'll never have to worry about lipgloss leaking in your purse! I like CoverGirl Wetslicks Amazemint lipglosses too but the packaging is cheap and prone to product oozing. Below are swatches for your viewing pleasure :D

(L-R) Nude Lustre, Life's a Peach, Pink Whisper, Pink Pursuit, Cherries in the Glow

As you can see, they are thick! However, they are not that sticky and they go beautifully on top of the Revlon Matte Lipsticks. I used to pair Nude Attitude with Life's a Peach all the time before I started buying lipsticks. They all have shimmers in them (not chunky glitter that you can feel on your lips!) except for Cherries in the Glow which is just an opaque red color.

These are the only Revlon lippies I have. Actually, I had one super lustrous lipstick in Just Enough Buff but I threw it out to make space. It had no pigmentation and was hard as a rock. I tried to make it work but it proved to be unworthy. I didn't like any of the other colors I saw either.. do you have any recommendations?

REVIEW: Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips in Amber + Drugstore Dupe!

Hi babes! I hope you are all doing very well! I had to remove my last post with my sister's makeover. Long story short, it was requested. But before anything, I had a few comments that I wanted to reply to.

Dorothy & xbbkay: "what did you use on her lips? it's very pretty!"
Gosh's Darling to nude out the lips and Rimmel's Pink Blush for the pinky color.

LOLanne: "yayy to circle lenses anddd an awesome older sister!! "
...I'm her younger sister... *cries!*

tonlesab: "Hi sir, your site is so great! could you exchange link?"
SIR???? wow, ya'll really know how to bring me down! I guess I should really wax my mustache..

And now on to my review!!! :D

Claim: "Naturally creates the look of fuller, more voluptuous lips. This mineral-infused polish imparts a luminous high shine with no sticky or tacky feeling. A deep infusion of antioxidant vitamins A and E help keep lips soft, smooth, and protected, while the tingly and cooling sensation reminds you that your lips are getting an immediate increase in fullness."

Overall: 4 out of 5

Packaging: 3 out of 5

Price: $18 USD

Size: 0.15 oz

Would you buy this again? Probably not since I found a dupe!

I bought this lip gloss awhile ago in Amber which is described as a soft shimmery peach. The gloss is thick but not sticky, give it a couple of minutes and it will melt on your lips. The first time I used this my lips stung like crazy so I stopped using it. However, last week Kate Gene posted about this lipgloss and how much she liked it. This made me want to revisit my little gloss so I went looking for it, hoping that it would work for me the second time around and guess what?! It did! Same thing happened with my Maybelline Pink Please lipstick. I disliked it at first but somehow it grew on me and now I wear it quite often. Everything deserves a second chance don't ya think?

This time, the lipgloss didn't sting/burn me like the first time I got it. It just got tingly and that was it. The scent of the gloss is minty which I don't mind . It has a doe foot applicator that doesn't pick up a lot of product so you have to scoop the wand in back and forth about 5 times! As far as plumping action goes, I can say that this lip gloss only plumps up my lips a tad bit.. mind you, my lips are fairly plumped as it is.

Well onto my discovery. I was looking at the pretty color of Amber and immediately thought of Revlon's Life's a Peach. I compared the two glosses side by side and surely enough, they were the exact same color!--peach with pink and gold shimmers. Swatches below my friends.

Left to right: Buxom Lips in Amber, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Life's a Peach

The only difference is that Life's a Peach doesn't have the plumping property but it comes with more product and is only a fraction of the price ($3.99 CAD when you catch the sales like I do =p).

To conclude, just buy Revlon's Life's a Peach. It's my favie gloss for crying out loud!

Toodles!

DISCLAIMER: I bought these myself and this is my honest opinion. I am not getting paid to write this and I am not affliated with Revlon or Bare Escentuals.

Overall: 5 out of 5
Packaging:5 out of 5
Price: $5
Would you buy this again? Yes!

When I saw the purple metallic casing I just had to get it. I picked up Nude Delight for about $5 CAD and couldn't be happier. This is my new favourite nudey at the moment because it feels like lip balm but is opaque enough to show up on my pigmented lips. It's very moisturizing like the regular line but it doesn't smell like bubblegum-- something I liked a lot about the Lasting Finish Wear lipsticks in the burgundy tubes. It glides on like a dream and the color is the perfect nude for me that doesn't wash me out like NYX's Circe. It's not over drying either like Revlon matte lipstick in Nude Attitude but it possesses the same peachy beige color (more pinky undertones though) with very subtle shimmer. Pick this up immediately, you won't be sorry. =)

nude delight, nude attitude, circe

Nude Delight on my lips. You can see my natural lip color on the corner of my lips heh
