REVIEW: Dermalogica Sheer Moisture with SPF 15 and Soothing Protection Spray

The first thing the opposite sex will take into account when they first meet you is your height, second is your skin. Well for me anyways.. I have transitional skin which basically means that in the winter it's dry and flakey and in the summer it's combination (oily in some areas like the t-zone and dry in others). Therefore, my skin regime changes every season!

Dermalogical products are developed by the International Dermal Institute. Their products are simple and supposedly delivers effective results in a short amount of time. The price range is a bit steep because it uses the latest advances in ingredient technology. I got the Sheer Moisture with SPF 15 and Soothing Protection Spray a month ago so here's my take on it.

Dermalogica Soothing Protection Spray

The Claim: An ultra-calming spray formulated with Dermalogica's Anti-Ozonate Complex to protect skin form reactive ozone while active botanicals immediately reduce irritation, redness and inflammation.

Overall: 4 out of 5 (because it works)
Packaging: 2 out of 5 (spray nozzle is not appropriate for this product)
Price: $12-$15
Size: 1.7 fl oz (travel size)
Would you buy this again? Yes

This is basically a toner but one thing that distinguishes this from other toners is that it contains a lot of oils, castor oil and lavender oil to name a few. When I first used this, I followed the instructions which was to spray on face with eyes closed. When I opened my eyes, the oils on my lashes had made its way in my eyes which stung like crazy. I did notice that it had a lemon scent and a cooling effect which was nice during those hot summer nights. I don't moisture my face at night in the summer due to the heat so the oils in this toner lightly aids in adding moisture to my cleansed face. When I got up I noticed some redness around my nose had gone away. I was stoked! The next day instead if spraying it on my face, I sprayed it on my hands and dabbed it on face. This method works wonderfully for me and i been using it since with the same results. A little goes a long way with this toner! I've been using it for a month and i still have a lot left!

Dermalogica Sheer Moisture SPF 15 (Untinted)

The claim: Oil-free hydration and sun protection united! All the key benefits of Sheer Tint Moisture SPF 15 - but without any tint. Ideal for users of Active Moist or Skin Smoothing Cream who are looking for a daytime moisturizer with a built in SPF15.

Overall: 2 out of 5 (because nice packaging and has SPF)
Packaging: 5 out of 5 (practical and sanitary)
Price: $36-$40
Size: 1.5 fl oz
Would you buy this again? No

You would expect this to be light and unscented because it was developed by estheticians but nope, it's thick and possesses that strong citrus scent like the toner. I used this once and never again for the summer because it's very heavy. I though this would be good for the winter time when my skin resembles sand paper but after an hour, my skin was flaking (and i had exfoliate the night before). This moisturizer does not leave a matte or satin finish which is what i prefer in a facial moisturizer. It feels greasy and doesn't absorb into the skin quickly. It didn't break me out for the one day i used it but i hate that it contains illuminating sparkles. You can see see it on my hand after i rubbed it in. It is pricey and not worth it!

Very thick indeed!

Pretty little glitters! hmmmm

Nice review. I've never tried Dermalogica but I've heard a few good things about it. I may try the toner. My skin's like yours too. It tends to change up when the seasons change as well.

I'm not crazy for thick, greasy textures especially on my face in the daytime. And there is quite a bit of sparkles/shimmer in it! Thanks for the review of it!

Don't like the idea of that sparkly moisturiser! I have just started using Dermalogica and I have found lots to like. I use the Age Smart Antioxidant hydramist which i love as a toner - sounds very similar to your one. I have been writing some reviews if you are interested - http://dermalogica-experiment.blogspot.com

Hey,

Just a suggestion. Was wondering how come the sheet tint moisture was that thick for you. I have combination skin too (oily t-zone and normal cheeks).

I use the sheer tint moisture (medium) and i live in malaysia (note: Tropical country). It gives and OK coverage because I am not so good with foundations. It has basically not given me any skin problems by using it. I have used it for years and I love it.

I'm sorry you spent so much on a product that didn't deliver. :( I'm really starting to get into taking care of my skin. Now that I'm getting close to 30, I'm noticing fine lines that I didn't have before. Ahh!

Thanks for the review!
